Schroder has advised that as of the Effective Date, the investment policy has been updated to remove the ability of the Fund to invest up to 40% of its assets in cash and global bonds.
Background and rationale
When the Fund launched in 2007 it did not have a target benchmark and it aimed for absolute returns (positive returns over any 12-month period). To aid this strategy the Fund was able to invest up to 40% of its assets in cash and global bonds in order to protect returns when the Investment Manager believes stock markets are expected to be particularly weak. However, over time the Fund’s strategy has evolved and this power (in particular, the power to invest in global bonds) is no longer needed. The Fund has not held bonds since 2015. The Fund’s permitted cash limit remains unchanged and will remain at 20% of its net assets, as provided in Appendix I of the Company’s prospectus in relation to the holding of ancillary liquid assets.
The following line has been removed from the Investment Policy of the Fund from the Effective Date:
The Fund may invest up to 40% of its assets in cash and global bonds in order to protect returns when the Investment Manager believes stock markets are expected to be particularly weak.
All other key features of the Fund, including the risk profile and fees, will remain the same.
Plan owners in the Fund do not need to take any action if they are happy with the above changes. However, they can switch to an alternative fund available to their plan, free of charge, should they wish to. We recommend that plan owners speak to their financial adviser before making any investment decisions.
